Leland
Leland, North Carolina has a rich and fascinating history that stretches back far before the town's official chartered date. For centuries prior to its establishment, the area around what is now known as Leland was inhabited by Native American tribes like Lumbee, Tuscarora, and Hatteras. In the early 1800s Bryant Smith settled in the area and mentioned it in his will as “Smithville” before it eventually became incorporated and acquired its current name. Since then, Leland has almost tripled in size and become a part of greater Wilmington’s metropolitan area with a plethora of opportunities for locals. Today the area enjoys wonderful coastal scenery combined with small-town charm making it one of the most desirable places to live in North Carolina. It truly is an incredible journey from past to present for this little town near the Atlantic Ocean!
