Hubert
Hubert, North Carolina has a long and storied history that dates back to the 1800s. Historically, the settlement of Hubert has had important connotations, being located at the gateway of metropolitan Onslow County near the coast. The Ammons family, who are direct descendants of Confederate Navy Captain Archibald Ammons, founded Hubert in 1879 as a mercantile center for local farmers and soybean producers to come and sell their goods. In the present day, Hubert remains an integral part of Onslow County's economy due to its strategic location and strong connection with nature. It is often seen as a haven from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan life because there are multiple outdoor activities to participate in such as bird watching, kayaking, canoeing and fishing in nearby creeks such as Bear Creek. Peering into Hubert’s past leads us to recognize today just how fortunate we are that this special piece of North Carolina has been preserved over time.
